Variety Carpet Corner

Variety Carpet Corner is located right on S V Road in Andheri West, which is always packed with people and cars. We are in the Makwana Building, at number 220 in the Yashwant Nagar area. The shop is full of carpets of all different sizes and colors, and they are usually piled up in big stacks on the floor. It’s a lot of heavy lifting to show someone a carpet that’s buried at the bottom of the pile. My arms get quite a workout every single day. The dust from the fabrics is always floating around in the sunlight that comes through the front window. We don't have a big staff, just a couple of us who know where every single rug is hidden. People walking by on S V Road often peek in, and some come in just to feel the textures of the different materials. We keep a small radio playing in the background to drown out some of the traffic noise from outside. It’s a simple setup with basic lighting and some old wooden racks. We don’t really bother with fancy decorations because the carpets themselves cover everything anyway. Sometimes we sit on the stacks of rugs to eat our lunch when things are quiet in the afternoon. It’s a steady job, and being in Andheri West means there’s always something happening right outside our front door at Makwana Building.
