You can find Uvm Fabrics Private Limited on the second floor of Mehta Mansion. We’re at number 221. Being in Zaveri Bazaar means it is always crowded and noisy outside. There are so many people and carts moving through the narrow lanes every single minute. It’s a struggle just to get a shipment up the stairs sometimes because the elevator is quite old and temperamental. Our office is small and packed with fabric samples from floor to ceiling. It feels a bit like a maze inside. We deal with all kinds of textiles, mainly for the local garment makers. The atmosphere in Mehta Mansion is very old-school. Everyone knows everyone else's business. We don't have a big corporate team. It’s just a couple of us handling the orders, the billing, and the phone calls. We spend a lot of time drinking tea and haggling over prices with traders. It’s a tough market but we like the energy of the bazaar. We don't use fancy software or have a mission statement on the wall. We just focus on making sure the fabric is the right quality and that it gets delivered on time. Sometimes we stay late when the market is busy, packing bags and checking invoices by the light of a small desk lamp. It’s a modest setup but it works for us. We’ve been here for a while and don't see ourselves moving anywhere else soon. There's something about the chaos here that keeps us going.
