Being located at 415 Sheikh Memon Street in Mumbai means we are right in the thick of things. It’s a 400002 zip code area which anyone around here knows is crowded and fast. Our building is old but it holds a lot of history and even more fabric. We deal with a lot of textiles and the space is always packed with bundles waiting to be moved or sorted. You have to be quick on your feet around here because the street outside is always full of handcarts and people rushing. Inside, it’s a bit calmer but still very busy. We have a lot of different people coming through the doors every day and we just try to help them find what they are looking for in the piles. It’s not a fancy office by any means. We have desks piled with papers and samples everywhere you look. Sometimes it feels like we are drowning in cloth but somehow we always know where everything is hidden. The heat in Mumbai can make the warehouse areas feel pretty stuffy, especially in the afternoons. We just keep the windows open as much as we can and keep moving. It’s a lot of manual work and checking lists over and over to make sure no mistakes happen. We don't bother with much talk, we just get to the point and get the fabric out to whoever bought it. It’s a long day but that’s life on Sheikh Memon Street.
