About Taher Sweets & Farsan – Food & Beverages in Mumbai
You can find us at Marol Gorwa 12, where we’ve been making sweets and savory snacks for the local crowd for a good many years. The shop is usually full of the heavy smell of ghee and fried gram flour from the kitchen. We make our farsan and gathiya fresh every couple of days because it sells out pretty fast and people like it when it's crunchy. We have the big glass cases filled with different kinds of barfi, halwa, and laddu. They aren't always perfectly shaped because we do it all by hand in the back area. It gets really hot back there with the big vats of oil and the sugar syrup going on the burners. During festival times like Diwali or Eid, it gets very crowded and we have to bring in some cousins to help us keep up with the orders. Sometimes the line goes right out the door and onto the main street. We don't have a website or do any of that online stuff, people around Marol just know we are here. My father started this business and now we just keep it going the same way he used to. We use the old recipes and we don't change much of anything. If a batch doesn't turn out quite right, we don't put it out for sale. Some days we have more of the spicy snacks and other days we focus on the milk-based sweets. We close up when the trays are mostly empty.
