Working at Starboard Cruise Services is quite different from a regular nine to five job on land. Since our main work is tied to ships and travel, things move at a different pace. Even though the paperwork says the address is not listed specifically right now, we are usually busy dealing with everything that goes into the retail side of cruises. It is a lot of logistics and making sure the right products are on the boats before they leave the dock. Most of us here have spent a lot of time learning how the cruise industry actually functions behind the scenes. It is not all just holidays and ocean views. There is a lot of inventory to track and schedules to keep up with. Sometimes the days get very long because ships do not really follow a standard office clock. We just get on with the tasks at hand. It is a group of people who know their way around the travel business and how to manage shops on the water. We do not really do the flashy corporate meetings. We just focus on getting the stock sorted and making sure the staff on the ships have what they need. It’s a practical sort of job that requires staying on top of things every single day. We have been doing this for a while and we just take it one voyage at a time, keeping the business moving as best as we can.
