Shweta Pharma Pvt Ltd is based in the Mansoor Building, right in the middle of the Kalbadevi area at Shop No 11/12. If you know this part of the city, you know how crowded it gets with the handcarts and the narrow lanes full of people. We have shops 11 and 12, so there’s a bit of room to move around, but mostly it’s just stacks of medicine boxes everywhere. The shelves go all the way up to the high ceiling, and we spend a lot of time on ladders reaching for things. It’s a pharmaceutical business, so there is a lot of checking batch numbers and making sure the expiry dates are all correct. The building is actually quite old, and you can see that in the walls and the way the windows are shaped. We keep a simple desk near the front for all the paperwork, which never really seems to end. There’s always someone calling on the old landline asking if we have a specific stock item ready. It can be a bit chaotic when the delivery trucks arrive because there’s nowhere for them to park easily on the narrow street outside. We just have to work fast to get the boxes inside before the traffic builds up too much. It’s a lot of standing on your feet all day long. We drink a lot of tea to keep our energy up. The neighbors are mostly other wholesalers, so we all know each other well. It’s not the quietest place to work, but it’s where we’ve been for years. We just keep track of the inventory and try to keep the dust off the glass bottles as best as we can.
