Shree Mahavir Halwawala

Shree Mahavir Halwawala is located in Borivali East, right near the Cheeta Camp area. We have been making traditional sweets here for a very long time. Our day starts very early, usually around five in the morning. That is when we start boiling the milk in the big iron vats. It takes a lot of patience to make things like rabri or mawa from scratch. We don't use factory-made ingredients because the taste just isn't the same. The shop is quite basic with glass counters to show what we have prepared for the day. People in Cheeta Camp know us well, so we don't really need to do any advertising. My sons help me run the place now. One stays at the front to talk to customers and the other helps me with the cooking. It is hard work and the kitchen gets very hot, especially when we are frying samosas in the afternoon. The floor can get a bit slippery from the ghee, so we have to wash it down constantly. Borivali is a crowded area and our street is always full of people and rickshaws. We just focus on making sure the sweets are fresh every day. If the quality is good, people keep coming back. That is the only thing that really matters to us at the end of the day.
