Sanjay Impex sits right on Chincholi Bunder Road in Malad West, inside the Kalpataru Plaza. If you know Mumbai, you know the traffic on S.V. Road is always a nightmare, so we usually try to get into the office before the rush hits. It’s just a standard office setup on the second floor at number 204. We handle a lot of the import and export paperwork here. There are files everywhere, stacked on desks and sometimes on the floor when we run out of shelf space. It’s not exactly a quiet place because the street noise comes right through the windows. We’ve been here for a while now, navigating the rules and the different ports. Malad is a busy area, lots of people moving around, and we just fit into that puzzle. Some days we are just waiting on emails or calls from the docks, other days it is a mad scramble to get documents sorted. We don't have a big corporate team, just a few of us who know how the systems work. We drink a lot of tea from the stall downstairs. It’s practical work. You have to be careful with the details or everything gets stuck at the border. We just keep at it, day in and day out, making sure things move from point A to point B. It’s a lot of staring at screens and filling out forms.
