Samta Packaging

Samta Packaging is over in Jogeshwari East. We are in Gala No 4 at Manik Villa. The space is long and narrow, filled with stacks of paper and rolls of plastic. There isn't much room to walk around once we get a big order in. You can always hear the sound of tape being pulled and boxes being folded. It is a bit dusty because of all the cardboard. We have a few machines that help with the cutting and sealing, and they make a steady rhythmic noise while we work. The lights are those long tubes that flicker sometimes. We spend the day measuring things and making sure the dimensions are right. It’s a very physical job and we are usually on our feet. The area around Manik Villa is quite industrial and there are other galas doing different types of work nearby. We often have to step out into the alley to get some air because it gets stuffy inside with all the material. Our desks are just small spots carved out between the stacks of goods. There are markers and rulers everywhere. It isn't a place for meetings or looking professional; it’s just a production space. We focus on the orders and try to get the packaging done so it can be sent out to whoever needs it.
