Our shop is located in the Swadeshi Market area of Kalbadevi Road. It’s a very busy part of Mumbai, right in the heart of the trade district. We are on the first floor of Plot 294/C in Govind Wadi. If you know Mumbai, you know how crowded Kalbadevi gets during the day. We spend most of our time surrounded by piles of fabric. The market has been here forever and we are just one part of it. The office is pretty basic, just some shelves and a couple of tables for measuring stuff. It’s hot in the summer but the ceiling fans do their best. We get people coming in from all over to look at what we’ve got. Sometimes it’s hard to even move around the room because there’s so much stock. We aren’t trying to be anything fancy. It’s just a place where business happens. We handle a lot of international fabric types, hence the name, but the way we work is very local and old-school. We write things down in ledgers and keep track of everything ourselves. It’s noisy outside with the handcarts and the shouting, but that’s just life in the market. We’ve been here a while and don't plan on moving. The floor is a bit uneven in spots but it doesn't bother us much. We mostly just drink chai and talk to the other shopkeepers.
