Our place, Rajkamal Namkeens Pvt. Ltd., is in the Dhamji Shamji Industrial Estate, using units 24 and 25. Being right on LBS Marg in Vikroli West makes it easy to get to, though the traffic on the main road is always a mess. We spend our days making different kinds of namkeens and snacks. Because we are in an industrial estate, it is always busy with other folks moving boxes around. Inside our units, it gets quite warm from the stoves. There is always the smell of spices and oil in the air, which you get used to after a while. We have a team of people who handle the frying and others who work on the packing side. It is a lot of work to make sure we do not run out of ingredients. We do not have fancy offices; most of the space is taken up by the machines and the storage for the finished snacks. Sometimes the equipment breaks down and we have to spend half the day fixing it, which is frustrating but just part of the job. We have been in this spot for a good while, and we like being in Vikroli. It is a hard-working environment where everyone has their own thing to do. We just focus on getting the batches done and sent out to the shops. The floor gets a bit slippery by the end of the shift but we clean it up before heading home.
