Our office is in the Gulab Building, which is number 237 on P D Mello Road. We’re up on the fourth floor, in room 406. This area near the docks is always incredibly busy and loud. You’ve got trucks and heavy vehicles moving all the time, so the air always smells a bit like diesel and the sea air. The building itself is quite old and has that classic Mumbai feel to it. The elevator is one of those old ones with the collapsible metal gates, and it’s a bit slow, so sometimes we just take the stairs if we’re feeling energetic or if the lift is stuck on another floor. Inside the office, it’s mostly just desks, chairs, and piles of papers that seem to grow no matter how much we file them away. It’s not a polished corporate environment at all. The paint is peeling a little near the window and the floor tiles are worn down from people walking over them for years. We’ve got a view of the street below, which is always a chaotic mess of traffic and people moving goods. It’s a very practical place to work. We don’t have a big lounge or a coffee machine, just a simple kettle and some mismatched cups in the corner for our breaks. Everyone stays busy with their own tasks, and the atmosphere is pretty quiet despite the noise from the road outside. It’s just how we operate, focused on the day-to-day things without any extra fluff or fancy stuff.
