Nrityalika Dance Institute

We are over at Flat No 3 and 4 on the ground floor. Being in Andheri East on Guru Govind Singh Road means it is always noisy outside with the traffic. We are tucked right behind Manish Park. The space inside is pretty basic. We have some large mirrors on the walls and the floor is kept clear for the dancers. Sometimes the humidity makes the floor a bit sticky, so we have to mop it down a couple of times a day. We usually get in early to open the shutters and let the air circulate. The sound of the fans is always going in the background. It is a simple setup with a small desk near the entrance where we keep the register. People walk by and look in through the door because we are right there on the ground level. We don't have a lot of fancy lights, just the regular overhead ones. Most of our day is spent watching feet move and counting out rhythms. It gets quite warm when there are twenty people in the room at once. We keep a few stacks of plastic chairs in the corner for parents who wait. The walls have a few scuffs from bags and shoes being tossed around. It’s just a regular spot where we spend our hours. We usually grab some tea from the shop down the road during the afternoon gap. It’s a busy life here behind the park.
