You can find us at number 103 on Khetwadi Main Road, inside the Jeevan Bhawan building. Khetwadi is one of those places where the lanes are so narrow that two cars can barely pass each other, so it’s always a bit of a scramble. Our shop is full of steel items, from plates and pots to bigger industrial pieces. The sound of metal hitting metal is the soundtrack to our lives here. Everything has a bit of a shine to it when it’s new, but it’s a lot of work keeping the dust off. We don’t have much in the way of decoration. The walls are mostly hidden by the shelves and the stacks of goods. We spend the day weighing things and writing out bills by hand. The building itself is quite old and has that specific smell of concrete and aging pipes. It gets very busy during the festivals when everyone wants new steelware for their homes. We have to be careful moving things around so we don't drop anything heavy on our toes. The tea shop next door brings us cutting chai throughout the day, which helps keep us going when the humidity is high. It’s a tight-knit community here in Khetwadi, and we know our neighbors well. We aren’t looking to be anything more than what we are, just a reliable spot for steel on a busy main road. We close up when the sun goes down and the traffic starts to thin out.
