Our office is on the 5th floor of Rahimtoola House in Fort, right near T M Road in the Shiv Estate area. Being in Fort means it is always crowded outside with people rushing to work. Up here, it’s a bit different. We deal with newspapers and information every single day. It’s a lot of sitting at desks, typing, and talking on the phones. There is always a deadline hanging over us, which makes things a bit tense sometimes. The building is one of those older ones in Mumbai with plenty of character. We have got stacks of paper everywhere and the smell of ink is just part of the room. People come in and out with stories or advertisements. It is not like those modern glass buildings you see nowadays. It is more traditional here. We focus on getting the news out. Some days are slow, but most of the time we are chasing something. We do not have a lot of frills. Just computers, chairs, and a lot of coffee to keep us going through the shifts. It is a steady rhythm of writing and editing. You get used to the noise of the city coming up from the street. We have been part of this area for a while and the staff here mostly live nearby or commute in on the local trains. It is just how we earn our living, keeping the press moving.
