If you’ve ever been to Kalbadevi, you know how crowded it gets. We are tucked away on the second floor of Gogate Mansion on Kika Street. It’s right in the middle of Gulalwadi. We have rooms 12, 13, and 14 for our business. It’s an old building with a lot of character and some creaky stairs. We deal with Jari, which is those metallic threads used in clothes. My family has been in this trade for a long time. The office is full of spools and sample books. It’s a bit dusty, but that’s the nature of the work. We don't have a big sign outside. Most of our customers have been coming to us for years. They know exactly where to find us. We spend the day checking orders and talking to suppliers. The noise from the street never really stops. You hear the carts and the shouting all day long. We don't have any polished marketing talk. We just provide the materials people need for their embroidery. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we just sit and talk until it comes back. We aren't trying to change the world. We just want to keep the business running like our fathers did. It’s a busy life in Mumbai, but we like our corner of it. We keep our books manually because it feels more reliable. It’s a simple, honest business. There isn't much more to it than that really.
