Master Wood

Out here in Powai, near Filter Pada, things are a bit different from the high-rise side of town. Master Wood is located on Aarey Road, right across from A K Tailor. If you see the tailor’s shop, you’ve basically found us. The area is always a bit dusty because of the road and the work we do. There’s usually the sound of a saw or a hammer going in the background. It’s a hands-on kind of place. We don't have a big marketing team or a shiny website. We just have our tools and the wood we work with every day. The shop isn't very large, so we often have to move things around just to make space to walk. It’s a bit of a squeeze sometimes. The sun hits the front of the shop in the afternoon, making it quite warm, but we just keep the fans running. We’ve been in this spot for a good while, and the neighbors are all familiar faces. We see the same people walking to work every morning. It’s a local operation, nothing more. We don't put on any acts for anyone. If you need something made of wood, we just see what can be done with what we have. It’s practical work for practical people. The floor is usually covered in shavings, but that’s just a sign of a busy day. We don't mind the mess much. It is just part of the everyday life here.
