Art Of Weaving

We have a small place at 31 Vishnu Mahal on D Road, right by Marine Drive in Mumbai. It’s a nice area to work in, especially with the breeze coming off the water. Art Of Weaving is what we call ourselves. We deal with textiles and fabrics. You’ll usually see piles of different materials sitting on the tables. We spend a lot of time looking at patterns and textures. It’s a bit more creative than a standard office job. The building is an older one, which gives it some character. We don't have any big signs or advertisements. People who need quality weaving work usually find their way to us eventually. It’s a lot of manual checking and talking to weavers. Sometimes we are here late when a new collection is being finalized. We aren't trying to be a massive factory. We like the scale we are at. It’s more personal this way. D Road can get busy during the weekends with all the people visiting the promenade, but during the week it’s a good place to be. We just focus on the craft and making sure the fabrics look the way they should. It’s a quiet kind of work most of the time. We often have some tea and sit by the window for a minute to think about the next design.
