Dahisar East is where we’ve been for quite a few years now. It’s a busy part of the city and our little shop is right in the middle of all that noise and traffic. Laxmi Sweet isn't a fancy place with big signs or anything like that. We just have our counter and the trays of sweets we make every day. My family started this because they knew how to make basic things like halwa and ladoos, and we just kept going with it. Most mornings start early around five when we get the milk delivered. It gets pretty hot in the kitchen, especially during the summer months when the sun hits the front of the shop. We don’t have much room for people to sit, so most customers just stand by the road or take their bags and go. The floor tiles are a bit chipped near the entrance because so many people come through, but we haven't gotten around to fixing them yet. During Diwali or other festivals, it gets really crowded and we sometimes run out of stuff before the sun even goes down. We try to keep everything simple. We don’t use those fancy machines, just big pots and a lot of stirring by hand. It’s hard work and our backs ache by evening, but that’s just how it is. We know our neighbors and they know us. If you’re walking around Dahisar East, you’ll probably see us there.
