About Kumkum Pashu Aahar – Agriculture & Farming in Mumbai
You can find Kumkum Pashu Aahar over at Kika Street, number 301. If you’ve ever walked down Kika Street, you know it is a very busy place. There are always people moving boxes and carts going back and forth. It’s a narrow street, so it gets quite loud with all the shouting and the noise of the city. We are right in the thick of it. Our space is filled with the smell of the animal feed we handle. It’s a very distinct scent that you get used to after about five minutes. We don’t have a lobby or a receptionist. You just walk in and someone will be there among the sacks of grain. It’s a hands-on kind of business. We spend a lot of time checking the stock and making sure the bags are stacked correctly so they don't fall over. Sometimes the rain leaks in a little near the front door when there’s a big storm, so we have to move things around. It’s just part of being in an old building in this part of town. We’ve been at 301 Kika Street for a while, and the neighbors are all doing similar kinds of trade. We talk to the other shop owners while we have our morning tea. It’s a tight-knit community of workers. We don't try to look more important than we are. We just sell the feed and keep the business going.
