Shop No 1 at Hilton CHS is where we spend our days and it is right in the middle of everything in Andheri West. Being near the Lokhandwala Circle means there is always a lot of energy and people rushing around Shastri. We spend a lot of time with rolls of brown packing tape and big cardboard boxes. The sound of the tape pulling off the roll is something I hear in my sleep sometimes. People bring in all sorts of things they want to send to their family in other countries. We have to weigh everything and measure the boxes and sometimes we have to tell people their box is too heavy. The shop is small and if more than three people are inside at once it feels crowded. We have a little computer in the corner for the labels but the printer acts up if it gets too hot. There are piles of envelopes and bubble wrap under the main counter. We know the regular customers who come in every week with their small parcels. Outside the window we see the rickshaws lined up and the people going to the shops nearby. It’s a busy life but it keeps us moving. We don't have fancy signs or anything like that, just the packages and the paperwork that goes with them every day.
