About Kishan Sweet & Farsan Mart – Food & Beverages in Mumbai
Our shop is tucked away in Shop No 4 of the Indrajeet Adav Chawl over on St. Marks Road in Andheri East. It’s not a big place, just a simple spot where we make sweets and farsan every day. Most mornings start early with the smell of frying gathiya and making fresh jalebis. We have been here for some time now and the locals know where to find us. It gets quite hot in the kitchen, especially in the afternoons when we are prepping the snacks for the evening crowd. People stop by after work to pick up a bit of something salty or sweet to take home. The chawl area is always busy, so there’s always someone passing by. We don't use any big machines or anything, mostly just doing things by hand like we always have. Sometimes the flooring gets a bit sticky from the sugar syrup but that's just part of the job. We keep our counters filled with whatever is fresh that day. It isn't a fancy showroom with glass cases everywhere, just a regular mart for the neighborhood. My family helps out with the packing and talking to customers. We try to keep things honest and simple. If the dhokla is finished, it’s finished for the day. We just start again the next morning. It’s hard work but we are used to it by now.
