Akarshan Enterprises

Being in M.G. Market is always a bit of a rush. Our shop is number 122, and if you know King’s Circle, you know how loud it gets with all the cars and people shouting. We’ve been running Akarshan Enterprises from this same spot for years. The shop isn't very wide, but we’ve got shelves going all the way up to the ceiling. You have to use a rickety old ladder to reach the stuff at the top, which is always a bit of a gamble. My cousin helps out when it gets busy, usually on the weekends when the market is packed. We spend a lot of time just rearranging things so people can actually see what we have. It’s mostly just us handling the daily bits and pieces, talking to the regular customers who come in to complain about the heat or the prices. We don't do anything fancy with the decor, just some basic tube lights and a fan that squeaks a bit when it’s on the highest setting. The tea seller from down the lane brings us cutting chai twice a day, and that’s usually the highlight of the afternoon. Dealing with suppliers is a bit of a headache because the trucks can’t always get close to the market, so we end up carrying a lot of the loads ourselves. It’s hard work, but it keeps the place going and we like being part of the noise here.
