You can find us in the Bharat Diamond Bourse, specifically in the G Block over at Bandra Kurla Complex. Being right opposite the Nabard head office makes it easy to explain where we are to people. Our office is EE-9012. It’s a big, secure complex with lots of guards and checking, so getting in takes a bit of time every morning. Once we are inside, it’s all about the diamonds and the export side of things. The lighting in the office is very bright so we can see what we are doing with the stones. We don’t have a lot of room for sitting around, as every inch of the desk is usually used for sorting or looking at paperwork. BKC is a very busy area, very different from the older parts of Mumbai. It’s all glass buildings and paved roads around here. We work long hours sometimes when there are big shipments to prepare. Most of the staff here have grown used to the quiet hum of the building's ventilation. We just go through our lists and check the packets one by one. It is a very specific kind of work that requires being careful and staying focused. We don't spend much on fancy furniture because we're mostly just looking at the goods and the computer screens all day long. Some days the paperwork feels endless but that is just the nature of this business.
