You can find Ketan Vakharia Architect over at 31 New Islam Mills Compound in Lal Baug. Our office is situated right above Supreet Marketing. It’s an interesting spot because the compound has that old industrial vibe that stays with you. We are fairly close to the Bharat Mata Currey Road Station, so the sounds of the trains are just part of our daily background music. The office itself isn’t anything like the high-end studios you see in magazines. It’s a functional space where we have our drawing boards and a lot of rolled-up blueprints gathering dust in the corners. The stairs leading up are a bit narrow, and you have to navigate around some of the storage from the business downstairs. We spend a lot of time here just working through ideas. The light in the afternoon gets quite bright, and we usually have to pull the blinds halfway down to see our screens. It’s a bit of a climb to get up here, and the building shows its age, but we like the character of the place. Lal Baug is a lively neighborhood, especially during the festivals, and that energy sometimes leaks into the office. We don't have a fancy coffee machine; we just make do with what’s available nearby. It’s just a regular workplace where we try to stay organized despite the constant flow of work and the occasional leak when it rains heavily.
