Kapil Designer

Kapil Designer is tucked away in Room No 6 of Bdd Chawl No 87 in Worli. If you know the Bdd Chawls, you know they are a big part of the history of this area. It is a very lived-in neighborhood with families and small businesses all mixed together. Our space is small, just one room where we do all our designing and sewing. There are always pieces of fabric and threads scattered around the floor. We have a couple of sewing machines and a large table for cutting cloth. It can get quite crowded when there are a few of us working at the same time. The light comes in from the small windows, and we usually have the door open to let the air circulate. You can hear the sounds of the kids playing outside and neighbors talking. It is a very communal atmosphere. People from around the chawl often stop by to chat or see what we are making. We don't have a showroom or a fancy display window. Most people find us through word of mouth or by just walking through the lanes of Worli. It is a modest place but we have everything we need to get the work done. The walls have some sketches and measurements written on them. It’s a real working space where we spend most of our waking hours. It’s just simple, local tailoring and design.
