K. P. Umbrella Mart

You can find us at 40/42, Dr.M.B. Velkar Street, right in Kolbhat Lane near Kalbadevi Road. We have been selling umbrellas here for a long, long time. This is a very old part of the city, and the lanes are very narrow. Our shop is packed from floor to ceiling with umbrellas of all shapes and sizes. When the rains start in Mumbai, this place gets incredibly busy. People come in dripping wet looking for a sturdy umbrella that won't blow inside out. We have the standard black ones that the old folks like, and some colorful ones too. We also spend time fixing umbrellas. Not many people do that anymore. If a handle is broken or a spoke is snapped, we try to fix it instead of just throwing it away. It is a bit of a messy job, but we have been doing it for years. The shop always has a bit of a dusty smell because of the old stock. We do not have any fancy lights or big glass windows. It is just a simple shop where we keep our heads down and work. My family has been in this business for generations. We know the neighbors and the other shopkeepers on the street. It is a tough life sometimes, especially with the heat and the crowds, but we are used to it. We do not use any modern machines for our work. It is mostly done by hand. That is just how we do things here.
