Joshi Sweets

If you live in or around the Brindaban Society, you’ve probably walked past Joshi Sweets a thousand times. We are right there in Building No-1-A, at Shop No-1 on the west side. It’s a small shop, but we’ve managed to pack a lot into it over the years. My family has been doing this for a long time, and the shop is really the center of our lives. We start early in the morning, long before most people are even awake, to get everything ready. There’s always a bit of a smell of sugar and milk in the air around the building. We don’t have a lot of space for people to sit down, so most folks just grab what they want and head out. Being on the ground floor of a residential society means we see the same faces every day. We know who likes what and who is usually in a hurry. It’s not a fancy place with modern decor. We have the same counters we’ve had for years, and they work just fine. Sometimes it gets a bit chaotic when there’s a festival coming up, and we are all working double shifts to keep the trays full. We don’t do much advertising because the neighborhood knows where we are. We just try to make things that people want to eat and keep the shop clean. It is a simple life but it keeps us busy.
