Running Jai Bhairav Catering Mandap Decorators is a lot of work, mostly because we operate across Borivali East, Bhayander West, and Nehru Nagar near S V Road. It’s a family-style setup. One day we are hauling heavy metal pipes for a mandap in Daulat N and the next we are worried about the salt in the dal. Our stuff is stored in a few places, and my phone never really stops ringing during the wedding season. It is a bit messy sometimes. You might see us unloading trucks early in the morning when the roads are still quiet. We deal with flowers that wilt too fast and fabrics that need a good wash after every party. It isn't a glamorous job like people think when they see the final stage. It’s mostly sweat and checking if the gas cylinders for the kitchen are full. I spend a lot of time on S V Road stuck in traffic, moving between sites. We’ve had times where a tent pole went missing or the decorations didn't look exactly like the sketch, but we always manage to put it together. We are just regular people trying to make a living by helping families host their guests. It’s tiring, and my back usually hurts by Sunday, but this is what we do. We've been in this area for years, so most people know where to find us if they need chairs or a meal for a hundred people.
