If you come looking for us in Malad West, you’ll find us at Shop No 3 in Mantriwadi, right near the Sainath area. It’s a small space, mostly filled with rolls of fabric and those heavy metal poles we use for the mandaps. Jagrut Mandap Decorators has been our life for a long time. Some mornings start way before the sun is up, especially when there’s a big setup to get done across town. We spend a lot of time loading and unloading the small tempo truck parked outside the shop. The neighborhood is always noisy with people going to work, so we just blend in with the rest of the businesses on the street. Sometimes the cloth gets a bit wrinkled or we can't find the exact color someone asked for right away, so we have to dig through the back of the shop. It’s a mess of ropes, lights, and flowers most days. We don't really bother with fancy office stuff because we’re usually out on the field anyway. My hands are usually a bit rough from handling the bamboo and the wires, but that’s just part of the job. We drink a lot of tea from the stall nearby while we plan where the next stage is going to go. It’s practical work, nothing too complicated, just making sure the frame stands up straight and the covers are tied down tight enough so they don't blow away if the wind picks up.
