Jagannath Chaturbhuj Halwai

We are located at Zaveri Bazar in Sadar Bazar. It is usually very crowded here and the noise from the street never really stops. We have been making sweets for a long time now. Mostly we focus on laddoos and jalebis. The morning starts very early for us. We have to get the milk and sugar ready before the sun is even up. It gets quite hot in the back room where the big metal pots are kept. Sometimes the customers have to wait because the place is small and gets cramped. 41309 is the area code but most people just know us by the landmark nearby. We do not have fancy chairs or bright lights. There is just a wooden counter and the smell of fresh ghee in the air. My father used to sit where I sit now. Not much has changed over the years. The floor is old and we scrub it every single night. Sometimes it feels like the whole of Mumbai is passing by our door. People buying jewelry come in for a quick snack. It is a loud part of town but we are used to it. We just keep frying and packing. It is what we know how to do. There is not much time for rest during the festival days. That is when it gets really crazy. We try to keep things simple. Just the food and the regular customers who come every week. It is a decent life.
