If you walk down Mohammed Ali Road in Kandivali West, you’ll find us at Shop No 5 in Vardhaman Chawl. J M D Plastics has been sitting in this little corner for a while now. The space is small, so we have to stack the plastic tubs and containers almost up to the ceiling. It’s a bit of a maze inside. Most people come here because they need something for their kitchen or maybe some heavy buckets for the bathroom. We get a lot of regulars from the chawl who just stop by to say hello or ask if we have a specific size of stool in stock. It gets pretty hot in the afternoons, but we have a small fan that does its job well enough. Sometimes the delivery trucks block the narrow road, making it a bit of a mess to get inventory inside. We don't bother with much advertising because everyone in the neighborhood knows where we are. Dealing with plastic items means a lot of dusting, as everything seems to catch the road dirt pretty fast. My cousin helps out during the evenings when it gets busier. It’s not a glamorous job, but it keeps us occupied and the bills paid. We just sell what people need for their daily chores. Sometimes we run out of the popular colors, and customers have to wait a week, but they don’t usually mind too much because we are right here.
