Hemptex India Private Limited is based right in the middle of the Cama Industrial Estate. If you know Sunmill Compound, you know it’s a busy spot in Lower Parel. We are in Unit Number 2. It’s an old building, typical of this part of Mumbai. The walls could use a fresh coat of paint, but the space is good for what we do. We work with hemp and other textiles. It's a bit of a niche, but we've found our rhythm here. The traffic outside is always a nightmare, so we usually get in early to avoid the worst of it. Inside, it smells like raw fibers and old paper. We don't have a big HR department or any of those corporate layers. It’s just us and a few workers who have been around for years. We spend our days coordinating with the mills and checking on shipments. Sometimes the rain leaks through the old windows during monsoon, but we’ve got plastic sheets for that. We aren't trying to be the biggest company in the city. We just want to get the orders right and keep our customers coming back. Most of the people we deal with are long-time associates. We don't do much on social media or anything. We prefer a phone call or a face-to-face meeting over a cup of tea. It’s a gritty, working-class environment, and that suits us just fine. Lower Parel has become fancy with all the malls, but our little corner in the estate stays the same.
