Harakchand Khartaji

Our shop is number 16 in BDD Chawl No 7, right in the Sewri area. It is an old building, and the shop has been here for a very long time. The walls are thick, and the ceiling is high, which helps a bit with the Mumbai heat in the summer. We don't have a lot of space inside, so everything is stacked up high towards the roof. At Harakchand Khartaji, we do things the old-fashioned way. There is a lot of history in these walls, and you can feel it when you walk in through the door. The neighborhood is very close-knit, so we know most of our customers by their first names or their families. We spend our days handling the stock and talking to people who drop by for a chat. It is not a place with air conditioning or bright neon lights. We use the natural light from the door mostly. The floors are worn down from years of people walking in and out. Sometimes it gets a bit noisy with the heavy traffic in Sewri, but inside the shop, it feels a bit slower and calmer. We don't use any fancy software to track our stuff; we just keep a close eye on everything ourselves using our own books. It is a humble place, and we are fine with that. We just show up every day, do our work, and stay part of the local life here in the chawl.
