Being over here in Solaris-2 on Saki Vihar Road means we are right in the thick of everything in Powai. It’s a busy building. You have to wait forever for the lifts sometimes, especially in the mornings when everyone is rushing to their offices. H Mansingh & Bros has been a family name for a long time. My uncles and cousins are all involved in the day to day stuff. Our space in Andheri East is mostly desks and a lot of paperwork these days, though we still keep samples of everything we handle. The traffic on Saki Vihar Road is legendary, so we try to get in early before the whole place crawls to a halt. It’s not a glamorous spot. It’s an industrial estate vibe, very functional. We have heaps of old files tucked away in cabinets because we never throw anything away. Sometimes the tea boy forgets our floor, so we end up walking down to the little stall near the gate. We deal with people from all over, mostly over the phone or email. It’s a lot of coordination to get things moved. When things get busy, the whole office feels a bit cramped with boxes everywhere. We don’t have any fancy mission statements on the walls. We just come in, handle the logistics, and try to get home before the evening rush hour gets too bad. It’s just how things go in a city like Mumbai.
