Shree Krishna Buttons N Elastics

If you find yourself on Lamington Road, you know how chaotic it can be. We are tucked away in Ratan House, specifically at 12/17 on Tribhuvan Road. It’s right next to the old Dream Land Talkies, so we always hear the crowds and the city sounds. At Shree Krishna Buttons N Elastics, our world is mostly made of small things. We have rows and rows of shelves filled with every kind of button you can think of and rolls of elastic piled up in the corners. It’s a bit of a maze inside. The lighting in the back is a little dim, but we know exactly where the white 10mm elastic is kept. People come in from the street looking for specific things for their tailoring or manufacturing jobs. It’s a lot of manual counting and packing into small bags. The building itself is old, with those high ceilings and narrow stairs that everyone in this part of Mumbai is used to. We spend a lot of time on our feet, moving boxes and helping people find that one specific shade of thread or a certain size of fastener. It’s honest work and it keeps us busy from morning until the shutters go down. There’s something satisfying about having a shop full of small essentials that people actually need for their daily work. It is cramped and noisy, but that is just the way we like it.
