Indian Footwear Moulds

If you come down to G- B/1 in the Virwani Industrial Estate, you will find us working on the moulds. It’s a bit of a walk from the main gate, but everyone around here knows where Goregoan East is heading these days. Indian Footwear Moulds is basically just a workshop where we get things done. It is dusty and loud most of the time because of the machines, but that is just part of the job. We spend most of our hours looking at designs and making sure the metal is shaped just right so the shoes come out properly. There is no air conditioning, just big open doors and the smell of grease and metal. Sometimes the tea man comes by and we take a quick break, but mostly we are busy. The floor is always covered in scraps and we have to sweep it twice a day. Being in an industrial estate means we have neighbors doing all sorts of other things, so there is always a truck backing up or someone shouting for a delivery. We have been at this address for a while and have seen the estate change, but our work stays pretty much the same. It is not glamorous at all. It is just about getting the moulds finished on time so the factories can keep moving.
