Deluxe Shoe Maker

Our workshop is at Plot No.B12 in the Satyam Building. If you know where the ONGC building is on Sant Rohidas Marg, we are right across from it. We have been in Mukund Nagar, Dharavi for a long time. It is a very busy part of the city. Deluxe Shoe Maker is where we spend our days surrounded by the smell of leather and glue. It is a small space, and we have tools that have been around for years. We make shoes by hand, which is slow work. We don't use big automated machines. It is just us sitting on stools, cutting leather and stitching soles. There is always a pile of half-finished boots or sandals in the corner. The Satyam Building is easy to find if you are near the Sumitra Vilas Hotel. People come to us when they can't find shoes that fit right in the regular stores. We take measurements and do our best. Sometimes we get things slightly wrong and have to start over, but that is part of making things by hand. The noise from Sant Rohidas Marg is constant, but we don't mind. It is a practical business. We aren't trying to be a big brand. We just want to make shoes that last a while. Most of our customers come from word of mouth around Dharavi.
