If you know anything about Mumbai, you probably know Nagdevi Street. It’s incredibly crowded, noisy, and absolutely full of hardware shops. Our shop is at 20/22. We’ve been here for a long time, and we know the rhythms of the street. We deal with engineering stuff—mostly pipes, valves, and all kinds of fittings. It’s a small space, and every single inch is filled with stock. Sometimes it’s hard to even find a place to sit down for a minute. We spend the whole day talking to contractors, plumbers, and mechanics who need very specific parts for their jobs. We know most of them by their first names. It’s a lot of questions like "do you have this in brass?" or "can this handle this much pressure?" We don't use a lot of fancy technology for our inventory; we mostly just remember where everything is hidden. The air in the shop is thick with the smell of metal, grease, and old cardboard. It’s honest, hard work. We open up early and only close when the street starts to quiet down, which is usually quite late. Sometimes the monsoon rain floods the street a bit, but we just keep the shutters up and keep working. We aren't a big corporation with fancy titles. It’s just us, some tools, and a lot of steel parts. We don’t even have a website that does much, because most people just walk in or call us on the landline. We try to be helpful and give people exactly what they need.
