Our small group at Chemtech Engineers operates out of the Hornby building, right near Church Gate at number 10. It’s a classic old building with high ceilings and that specific smell of old paper and stone. Being engineers, we tend to have a lot of drawings and technical manuals spread out over every available surface. It’s not exactly a showroom, more of a place where we sit and figure out technical problems. The area around Church Gate is always moving, so there is plenty of noise from the street coming through the windows. We’ve been in this office for quite a bit of time now. The space is a bit tight with all the files we keep, but we know where everything is. Usually, one of us is on the phone while the others are looking over a project draft. It’s a very hands-on environment. We don’t really do much in the way of decoration; the walls are mostly covered in calendars and old maps. Lunch is usually something quick from a nearby spot. We like the history of the Hornby building, even if the stairs are a bit steep. It feels like a solid place to work from. We handle the engineering side of things and just try to stay on top of the schedule. Every day is a bit different depending on what kind of project is on the desk. It’s just how we operate here, nothing fancy, just a lot of pens, paper, and hard work.
