Durga Misthan Bhandar

This is Durga Misthan Bhandar, located in Sharma Chawl at 5th Cross in Malad East. It is just room number 7 on the ground floor. It is not a big shop, just a small space where we make our sweets. I started this because I knew how to make good gulab jamun and rasgulla from my time back in the village. People from the chawl come here mostly. We do not have a big sign outside, just a small hand-painted board. I wake up before the sun to start the work because you have to be careful with the milk or it burns. I do everything myself mostly. Sometimes a nephew helps with the heavy lifting or cleaning the floors. The floor is made of stone and stays cool even in the summer. I have a small bench outside for people to sit if they want to eat their snacks right there. It is a quiet part of Malad, away from the main road. I like it that way. Most of my customers are friends now. We talk about politics or the local news while they wait for their parcels. I do not use fancy packaging, just plain boxes and paper bags to keep costs down. I have been in this room for twelve years now. The walls need a new coat of paint, but I will get to it next month. It is a decent life.
