Dk Architects

Our office is over in Sion Koliwada at Plot No. 197. It’s called Kamal Kunj, on Road No. 29. If you know the G.T.B. Nagar Railway Station, we are basically right opposite that. Being near the station means there is a constant stream of people and the sound of trains throughout the day. It’s a busy part of Mumbai, as you’d expect. Inside the office, things are usually a bit cluttered with rolls of drawings and site maps. We spend a lot of time looking at computer screens or sketching out ideas for different buildings. Dk Architects isn’t some big corporate firm with a glass lobby. It’s a working space where we sit and figure out how to make spaces work for people. Sometimes we are out visiting sites, and other times we are just here dealing with the heat and the noise from the street. The office is tucked away in this residential-commercial mix, which feels very local. We’ve seen the neighborhood change quite a bit over the years. We mostly deal with local projects and people who walk in because they live nearby. It’s a straightforward way of working. We don't have a big marketing team or anything like that. It’s just us doing the drawings and managing the technical side of construction. If the train is running late, the whole area gets even more crowded, but that’s just life in this part of the city. We keep busy with whatever comes across the desk each morning.
