I’m based up on the third floor of Cumball Hill Hospital, specifically around the ICU section. Being in Kemps Corner means things are always moving fast outside, but inside the hospital, it’s a different kind of busy. It’s not like having a street-front shop where people just wander in. Most of the people I see are already here for serious reasons. I spend a lot of time walking the halls between the different rooms on this floor. The hospital has been here a long time, and you can see that in some of the corners and the way the elevators take their time. My desk is usually covered in papers and notes because there’s always something to keep track of. It’s a quiet place mostly, except for the machines and the nurses moving around. People coming to see me usually look a bit worried, which makes sense given where we are. I’ve been working out of this floor for a good bit now. It’s not the kind of job where you have a lot of downtime to decorate an office or make things look perfect. We just focus on the patients and the charts. Sometimes the tea from the canteen is the only break I get in a long shift. Mumbai can be loud, but up here on the third floor, we just try to keep things moving as they should for everyone’s health. We don't have much of a lobby, just a small space for people to wait and some old magazines.
