Mehta & Sons is in Shop No. 15 at Fashion Square, inside the Avanti Apartment building on Senapati Bapat Marg. Dadar West is always moving, and we are right in the thick of it every single day. The shop is on the smaller side, but we make use of every inch of space we have. We’ve got shelves going all the way up to the high ceiling. I have to use a ladder nearly twenty times a day to reach things. It keeps me active, I guess, even if it's tiring. We’ve been here since the building was fairly new and things were a lot quieter. My son helps out now when he isn't busy with his own things. We don't do much advertising or anything like that. People just see us when they walk by on their way to the station. The mornings are usually quiet, so that's when I do the cleaning and the accounts in my ledger. By the afternoon, it gets pretty hectic with people coming in and out. Sometimes people come in just to escape the heavy rain during the monsoon season. We don't mind at all. It's a nice little community here and we know most of the faces. We know the other shopkeepers around us and we share lunch or tea sometimes. It’s not a fancy corporate office, just a local shop where we work hard and keep things going.
