D V R Arts

Prabhadevi 33 is a busy address, and being here at D V R Arts means I am always right in the middle of the Mumbai bustle. Our space is not very large, and it is mostly filled with various art materials, frames, and canvases that are waiting for attention. I usually arrive in the morning and spend the first half hour just moving things around so I can actually reach my workbench. The floor is made of rough concrete and is covered in various drips of paint and sawdust from previous projects. It’s a working space, not a showroom, so things are often a bit messy. The light that comes through the front door is usually enough to work by, but I have a couple of bright lamps for when the clouds roll in. I spend my days measuring things out and working with my hands. People often stop by to ask if we can help them with a project or just to see what we are making. The neighborhood is full of small businesses and residential buildings, so there’s a real mix of people walking by all day. I usually have a small radio playing the news or some local music to keep me company. It gets quite humid in the afternoons, and I usually have to keep a small table fan pointed directly at my face. It is a simple, hardworking life, and I like the feeling of finishing something at the end of a long day.
