D J Sweets & Farsan Mart is tucked away in Madina Market over in Santacruz West. We’re at Shop No 4 in the Anand Commercial Center. If you’ve ever walked through the market area, you’ve probably smelled the frying going on in our kitchen. We spend most of our time in the back making different kinds of farsan and traditional sweets. It’s a small shop and it gets really hot in the summer with the big stoves going all day long. We’ve been here for years, and the market has changed a lot around us, but we still make things the old way without any shortcuts. It’s not a fancy boutique sweet shop; it’s just a place where people come for their daily snacks or something sweet for a small celebration at home. We have our regulars who come by every single week for their favorite mix of snacks. Sometimes we run out of the popular items by the afternoon, and we just have to tell people to come back the next day. We don't have a big marketing plan or a social media page to show off. We just focus on the cooking and making sure the shop is open on time every morning. It’s hard work being on your feet all day, but we like being part of the Santacruz community. It’s a busy life in Madina Market, but we wouldn’t have it any other way.
