Colaba Sweet Mart

We are located at Colaba Kittur Channamma Circle 37. It’s a busy spot where people are always walking by. The shop isn't very big but we manage to fit a lot of trays on the shelves. We’ve been making sweets here for quite some time now. Most mornings start with the smell of sugar syrup and ghee. It gets quite hot in the back where the large pans are kept. We don’t have a fancy website or anything like that. People just walk in when they want something for their tea or if there is a wedding in the family. We keep the barfi and the pedas in the glass cabinets. Sometimes the door sticks a bit when it's raining, but that’s just how it is. We try to keep things simple and do what we know. There are a few stools if someone wants to sit for a minute, but most people just take their boxes and go. The neighborhood has changed over the years, but the circle is still as loud as ever with all the traffic. We just keep the trays full and keep the lights on until late evening. My uncle used to run things, and now I’m here most days along with a couple of other guys. It’s a lot of work to keep up with the demand during Diwali or Ganpati. We don't use fancy machines, mostly just our hands and the old recipes that have been around since the start.
