If you are walking around Goregaon East in the evening, you will probably hear us before you see us. Brass Monkey is the kind of place where things start off quiet in the late afternoon and then get pretty loud once the sun goes down. I usually spend the first hour of my shift just wiping down the tables and making sure the chairs are mostly straight. The lighting is a bit dim, which hides the scuffs on the floor from all the people moving around. We have a lot of people who stop by right after they finish work, still wearing their office clothes and looking tired. By nine o'clock, the atmosphere changes and it gets a lot more energetic. Sometimes the music is a bit too loud for some people, but that is just how it is here. Cleaning the bar top is a constant job because drinks get spilled and people leave their coasters everywhere. We have a small kitchen in the back that stays busy until we close the doors. The staff mostly just jokes around with each other during the slow parts of the night to keep the mood up. It is a lot of standing and carrying heavy trays, and my feet are usually aching by the time I lock up the front door. We aren't trying to be anything special, just a place in the neighborhood where people can hang out for a while. The street outside stays busy with rickshaws even late into the night.
