Bobby Mukherji & Associates, Mumbai

Our office is located in Chembur East, which is a busy part of Mumbai. We are specifically in the Navjeevan Co-Op Housing Society, in Building Number 13, Flat Number 12. Since it’s a residential society, the atmosphere is quite different from a typical office park. You see neighbors drying clothes on their balconies and kids playing in the common areas while we are inside working. It’s a small space, being a flat, so we are all quite close to each other. We have desks squeezed into the rooms and the living area serves as the main workspace. It’s a bit cramped when we have a lot of files to go through, but we make it work. The building itself is one of those older Mumbai structures that has seen a lot of monsoons. The elevator is a bit small and sometimes it’s faster to just take the stairs. We’ve been here for a while, so we know most of the people in the society. There’s no big sign on the door, just a small nameplate. It’s a quiet way to run a business, away from the glass towers of the city center. We spend our days drinking cutting chai and looking over our papers. It’s an honest, local setup. We don't have a receptionist or a waiting room; if someone comes by, they just sit on the sofa in the main room. It’s practical and keeps our overhead low.
