Getting to Room No. 372 in the Squatter Colony in Malad East can be a bit of a squeeze sometimes, but that’s where we are. It’s a crowded part of Mumbai, so we understand what it means to work with small spaces. Ateeq-Ur-Rehman is usually the one you’ll talk to if you drop by. We do architecture and interior design, mostly helping folks figure out how to fit everything they need into their homes or shops. Living in Mumbai, space is the biggest problem everyone has. We spend a lot of time drawing layouts and trying to find an extra few inches for a cupboard or a desk. It’s not always glamorous work, but it is what people need. We don't have a big corporate office with glass walls. It’s just a practical workspace where we get things done. Sometimes the noise from the street gets in, but we’re used to it by now. People come to us when they want to renovate a room or start a small building project from scratch. We look at the site, we draw the lines, and we talk through what can actually be done given the budget. It’s honest work. We’ve seen how this neighborhood has changed over the years and we just keep doing our part, one drawing at a time. It’s not about being fancy, it's just about making a small room feel a lot better to live in.
